Why do I keep getting a timeout error when checking my email?

If you are receiving a timeout error while downloading email, this error is most commonly caused by an anti-virus program scanning your email. Due to the amount of time it takes to scan emails, especially large emails, this can cause a timeout error on our server because the server does not see any activity within a certain amount of time. To resolve this issue, you will need to disable email virus scanning. Below are steps to disable email scanning in some of the more popular anti-virus programs. If you do not see your anti-virus program listed, you will need to consult the documentation for your program.

McAfee Security Center (Older Versions)
Double click on the McAfee icon in the system tray. Click on Virus Scan then on Options. Uncheck Scan email and attachments. Click Apply then OK.
