| Double click on My Computer on your desktop |
| Double click on Dial Up Networking |
| You should see an icon called Make a New Connection |
| Double click on Make a New Connection to open the connection wizard |
| On the first screen, type in alaweb where it says "Type a name for the computer you are dialing" |
| Click on Next at the bottom |
| On the second screen, type in the correct dial-up number where it says "Type the phone number for the computer you want to call". |
| Area code box should be empty since most dial-up customers call a local number |
| Click on Next at the bottom |
| On the third screen, it will say "You have successfully created a new Dial-Up Networking connection called alaweb" |
| Click on Finish at the bottom |
| To configure the dialer, right click on the AlaWeb dialer |
| Left click on Properties |
| This will open the dialer properties window |
| On the General tab, uncheck "Use area code and dialing properties" at the bottom |
| Click on the Networking tab |
| Type of Dial-Up Server should be "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98" |
| Under Advanced Options, Enable software compression should be the only thing checked |
| Under Allowed network protocols, TCP/IP should be the only thing checked |
| Click on the “TCP/IP settings” button located to the right at the bottom |
| Server assigned IP address should be checked |
| Server assigned name server address* should be checked |
| Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote computer should be checked |
| Click on OK at the bottom of the screen then click on OK at the bottom of the next screen |
| Close Dial Up Networking |
| *If you need to put in the Primary and Secondary DNS numbers, you will need to check Specify name server addresses. Primary DNS will be 216.108.208.2 and Secondary DNS will be 216.108.208.3 |
