FROM THE MAYORS DESK

When I first ran for Mayor, I had one overall objective, which was to improve the quality of life for all the people of our community.

Nearly four years ago I was elected to lead our city. At that time I began working on a plan that would take Slocomb in a direction acceptable to the city’s citizens.

As we began our journey a number of problems had to be faced. It was obvious to me that if the city was going to try and recruit new industries our downtown business district would need improvements. I decided new sidewalks and street lights were needed, the City Hall should have major repairs and landscaping improvements were necessary. Also, if we intended to bring new people to our town, we would need the highest level of public safety. That would mean more and better equipped police, fire, rescue vehicles and facilities.

We desperately needed a new senior citizens facility, City Park and a walking trail. Those were "lofty goals" for a community our size and some people said that we could never achieve them. However, I am proud to say that with the help of the city council, legislators and most of all, "the citizens of this great community" we achieved all of our objectives.

Now, our focus must be on that which remains to be accomplished. Slocomb has the will as a community however to realize greatness in the future it must embrace grand dreams and work to make them a reality.

Under my leadership the city of Slocomb will seek greatness.
