A Native Son of

Andalusia, Alabama and proud of it!

Past President of the Andalusia Rotary Club and the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce

Member of the Friends of the Alabama Archives Also a member of the Georgia Genealogical Society and the Alabama Hisorical Association.

Served on Board of Trustees at Judson College, Marion, Alabama for 13 years. I have been a member of First Baptist Church since membership in the Primary Department. I still have my diploma signifying my graduation. I was baptised on September 1, 1939 in the old Church downtown, of course. I was selected to serve as a deacon while in the old Church.

I enjoy local history and I invite you to check out my link to Local History.

I am interested in Genealogy relating to the Waits, Brown, Henderson, Shaver, McIntosh, Wilder, Bartlette, Ray and Deer families.I have just published a staple bound soft cover booklet on the Mark Waits Family. I sell it for $25.00 postpaid to anyone interested. Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. Also available is my book on "The John Shaver Family". It is $25.00 also.

I am a member of the Covington Historical Society and it's project "The Three Notch Museum" which is a local history museum for Andalusia and Covington County, Alabama. It also features several rail cars including two cabooses, a box car containing a model train layout. A maintainence MotorCar is also on site.

I served in World War II in the Panama Canal Zone for 27 months. I was sent for my basic training to Fort Benjamin Harrison near Indianapolis. There I was sent to Army Finance School where I learned how to make a payroll and pay officers and enlisted soldiers. On several return trips to Panama since the war, my wife and I have visited close friends who live there today. We have traveled with Jaime & Silvia Lasso toall provinces of Panama including the Darien province area and into Costa Rica. We would love to return to Panama to see all the recent development in an amazing Country. Now with the construction of the new and much larger locks, Panama is looking toward a bright future. Many people from Germany,Spain,Canada and the U.S.A. are retiring in Panama. If you would like to see the ships as they go through Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal try the live camera site on the Panama Canal Link. Select the "English" version in lower right hand corner.
