Reporting Animal Cruelty & Neglect

Animal cruelty is against state and federal laws in the United States. Animal cruelty acts can be misdemeanors or felonies depending on the severity of the incident. These crimes are punishable by fines and/or imprisonment.

If you witness animal abuse, please contact the Covington County Sheriffs Department if you live outside city limits, or inside city limits call your local City Police Department. Law officers are obligated to investigate these crimes.

The AAHS has no legal authority to conduct investigations or resolve these situations. However, we can help follow up with local authorities to ensure the complaint was investigated and we can provide refuge for animals rescued from these situations.

Please have the courage to speak up for innocent animals who can't speak for themselves. Let's work together to end dog fighting and other forms of horrible animal cruelty in our area. These crimes will never stop ocurring without your help.
