Walking Canes have been in use since before the turn of the century, when a gentleman would no sooner leave home without his cane than he would his top hat or long coat.

They were used to assist in entering his carriage or to fend off ruffians.  Often a gentleman had a cane for daytime use and a "dress" cane for the evening.         WALKING2.GIF (63712 bytes)

In rural areas, men used them when walking in the woods to maintain balance or to fend off snakes and other aggressive animals.

Today we see hikers using walking sticks for much the same reasons, though today's animals may be of the two-legged variety.
Whether you be a collector, a user, or just want to give a lasting, unique gift, we have a stick just for you.  There are no two alike.
The walking stick you select will give you many years of pleasure and may even become a family heirloom if passed down from generation to generation.  Many sticks from the past are today quite valuable as collectors items.

The woods selected for our walking sticks may be Oak, Sassafras, Sweet Gum, Persimmon, Chinaberry, Cherry, Huckleberry, or any one of a number of local woods.
The woods here in the South are very fast growing and may be deformed in a spiral shape by the growth of  vines around the tree.  These vines are also fast growing and can greatly alter the shape of a tree, which gives us the unique shapes that we desire in our sticks.
We try to leave the sticks in pretty much the shape that Nature created, sometimes carving our faces and characters as the mood presents itself.
All of our walking sticks are coated with a protective Polyurethane finish and have a replaceable rubber tip for your safety.  We try to make our sticks a little longer than necessary, as we have found it to be easier to shorten them than to lengthen.   Our business stemmed from a need to use a walking stick, and whether yours is an aid due to a physical ailment, or just a pleasure device, we hope you'll enjoy many years of service from your "Alabama" Walking Stick.
