What Translation Should I Use?

“I think translations are great, I believe everyone ought to have ten of
them.” However, because some are
word-for-word (literal) translations while some are thought-for-thought I
recommend for all people that their main study Bible is a literal version. Four examples are the American Standard
Version of 1901, King James Version, New King James, and New American Standard
Version (Updated 1995); the latter two are modern and so use up-to-date
phraseologies. Too, they leave out
“thee,” “thou,” “ye,” and the like.
All translations
have their faults—yes all—but some are certainly better than others. The benefit of having lots of versions is the
variety of phraseologies used in any given verse. This provides a sense of the original meaning
without becoming entangled in the Greek and Hebrew languages.
