Bulldogs capture Region 2 Championship with 34-15 win over Florala
The Brantley Bulldogs captured their 6th consecutive Class 1A Region 2 championship by beating a strong Florala Wildcats team in Florala Friday night by a 34-15 score. In gaining the win the Bulldogs Region 2 win streak increased to 41 straight games with their last region lost coming in 2001. Junior sensation Anthony Gulley scored two touchdowns for Brantley to pace the high power "dawg attack" with a 41 yard 1st quarter run and a 75 yard pass interception in the 3rd period. Terrell Burnett scored Brantley's first touchdown of the night in the first quarter on a 3 yard run. Justin Wright had a 5 yard run for Bulldog first half score, and he had a one yard touchdown run in the second half. Britt Barnes kicked two extra points. Brantley's defensive unit, led by Dexter Daniels and Terrell Burnett, had a big night for the Bulldogs, 7-1 for the season. Florala was averaging 40 points per game going into the game, and after having the Wildcats score 15 points in the first half, the Dawgs shut out the Cats in the second half of the game. Other defensive players with a big night were Westley Spivey, Derek Holley, Chase Haws, and Jared Hall. The offensive line made up of Zack Ballard, Chase Haws, Dillion Motes, Dexter Daniels, Tory Upshaw, Westley Spivey, and Jared Hall had a good night. Gulley had 155 yards on 19 carries while quarterback Chase Hall was 4 of 7 for 41 yards. The Bulldogs take on the Kinston Bulldogs next Friday night at Bulldog Stadium for homecoming.
