Bulldogs blank Ariton, 42-0

Bulldogs victory over Ariton
September 21, 2007:
The Brantley Bulldogs picked up their 4th win of the 2007 season
without a loss in a resounding 42-0 win over the Ariton Purple Cats
Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs were ranked #2 in the
ASWA Class 1A state rankings going into the game.
With a tropical depression
sending wave after wave of rain showers during the game, the Bulldogs
managed to get off to a great start in their 38th consecutive region
win when Anthony Gulley intercepted a Purple Cat pass on the first
play of the ball game. From that point it was only a matter of time
before Gulley recorded his first score of the night on a 11 yard
scamper. Britt Barnes kicked the point after, and Brantley had a 7-0
lead with 6:18 left in the first period.
Still in the first quarter at
the 2:24 mark, quarterback Chase Hall, who was 5 of 6 passing for 160
yards and 3 touchdowns, faked a pitch to Gulley, stepped back and
threw a perfect strike to senior tight end Dexter Daniels on a
beautiful 70 yard scoring play for Brantley's 2nd TD of the game.
Barnes, who kicked 6 for 6 extra points during the game, made it 14-0
with his PAT.
The Brantley defense, playing
terrific all night, added the next points when linebacker Westley
Spivey intercepted an Ariton pass and raced 28 yards for the
touchdown with only 29 seconds to go in the first period. Barnes made
it 21-0 with his point after.
Brantley would add another
touchdown right before half-time when Stephen Walker ran it in from
the 5 yard line and Barnes added the PAT for a 28-0 half time score.
In the second half of play,
Brantley would tack on two more touchdowns both coming from the
passing arm of Chase Hall to Anthony Gulley from 20 yards and 51
yards respectively. The final score was 42-0.
The Bulldogs play host to the
Highland Home Flying Squadron next Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
