October 13, 2006

Miss Casey Free and her 2006 Homecoming Court were the center of attention Friday night in Brantley, but the homecoming crowd's attention was centered on the Brantley Bulldogs impressive victory over the Providence Christian Eagles from Dothan by a 55-0 score. The Bulldogs improved their record to 7-0 for the season and 5-0 in Region 2 play. The Bulldogs' Region 2 win streak increased to 33 consecutive games since 2001.

Providence caught the Bulldogs off guard on the opening kickoff when they recovered an onside kick, but the Bulldogs' defense choked off any threat that the Eagles could muster and took over on downs. After only four plays, James Pittman ran nine yards for Brantley's first score of the evening. Then, still in the first quarter, Chris Booker raced 58 yards with 1:56 on the clock to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

This was only the beginning for Booker when early in the second quarter he streaked 51 yards for his 2nd touchdown of the evening. Then with 7:01 left in the first half, Anthony Gulley threw to Austin Brook who took the pass and ran 33 yards for Brantley's 4th touchdown of the half. Brantley added another score at the 2:40 mark when Booker scored again. This time he ran a punt back for 71 yards behind terrific blocking by his teammates that gave the Bulldogs a commanding 35-0 half time lead.

After the half time full of homecoming festivities, the Bulldogs stormed back on the field ready for more action. Chris Booker amazingly added his fourth touchdown of the game when he took a 20 yard pass from quarterback Jonathan Helms for a 42-0 lead at the 9:36 mark in the third period. Brantley's next score came from the defensive unit when Jeffrey Daniels picked off an Eagle pass and ran it back for a touchdown from 29 yards out. Then with 6:34 left in the third quarter. Anthony Gulley, a promising sophomore, passed three yards to Justin Wright for the final score of the game. Marquis Owens kicked 7 of 8 point after touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Brantley's defense swarmed all night with Jeffrey Daniels, Dexter Daniels, and Justin Wright making some impressive hits in the game. The Bulldogs defense has only allowed 24 points in seven games for an average of 3.43 points per game. The offense has scored 333 points during the season for an average of 47.6 points per game.

Brantley entertains Florala in another Region 2 match up next week in Brantley.
