October 27, 2006: The Brantley Bulldogs picked up their 9th win of the season against no losses by romping over the Bulldogs from Kinston, 49-3. The game was the 35th Region 2 win in a row for the Bulldogs, and it was their 43rd win in the last 44 regular season games. The Bulldogs have scored 427 points in nine games while allowing only 43 points scored against them. With the win, Brantley immediately turned their attention to next's week game against the Luverne Tigers. Points scored and win streaks will have no bearing as the Tigers come to Brantley for a Thursday night game. James Pittman wasted little time in getting the Bulldogs on the score board as he took the opening kickoff and raced 86 yards for a Brantley touchdown with only 21 seconds ticked off the clock. Roy-L Knighten ran the two point conversion to make the score 8-0. Then the Bulldogs scored on their next possession when quarterback Jonathan Helms found Thad Frazier opened for a 23 yard scoring pass at the 7:43 mark still in the first period. The PAT failed. The Bulldogs got the ball back and Pittman lit up the scoreboard on a 37 yard run with 4:47 left on the clock. Marquis Owens kicked the PAT for a 21-0 lead. Brantley's defense continued to stone-wall the Kinston eleven, and with only 59.4 seconds left in the first period, Helms passed to Knighten for a 51 yard scoring toss and a 28-0 lead. Helms added this third touchdown of the night when he threw to Frazier for his second touchdown reception of the game on a 25 yard strike to give the Green Team a 35-0 lead. Brantley begin playing a lot of young players at this point, and the first half ended without any other scoring. In the third period, Brantley had a pass intercepted by the Bulldogs of Kinston, but Kinston could not push it in the end-zone. They had to settle for 3 points when Brad Elmore booted a 27 yard field goal to make the score 35-3. Brantley added another score in the third quarter when Chris Booker ran for a 58 yard touchdown, and Knighten added his 2nd touchdown of the night on a 35 yard punt return. The final score was 49-3. Brantley now prepares for the biggest game of the year against their biggest rival, the Luverne Tigers. Luverne is undefeated at 9-0 just like Brantley. The game could not have a more impressive setting. The game is set for Brantley at 7:00 pm on Thursday night. Advance tickets will be sold at the school during the week.
