Brantley floods Elba in season opener, 49-0

The 2006 season began in high style for the Brantley Bulldogs with a 49-0 victory over the Elba Tigers Friday night in Brantley before a large opening night crowd. The Bulldogs used their blazing speed to literally out run the Tigers all night long.

Chris Booker had a 67 yard punt return for a touchdown, and James Pittman, in a "I can do anything you can do act" added his version of a punt return for 67 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Helms passed for 79 yards with a 6-7 throwing performance, and Anthony Gulley added 22 yards passing on 3 for 5. Austin Brook caught 2 passes for 18 yards, Terry McClain had 2 receptions for 17 yards, Landon Morgan had 1 reception for a touchdown, and John Tyson added one reception for 39 yards.

Pittman led the rushers with 121 yards and 1 touchdown on 9 carries. Booker contributed 59 yards and two touchdowns on 9 carries while Jeffery Daniels added 43 yards on 4 carries.

Daniels led the Bulldog defense with 7 tackles and a blocked punt. Channing Booker and Justin Wright had 6 tackles each in the shutout for the "Dogs". Thad Frazier had a spectacular interception for defense in the win. Marquis Owens was perfect in the extra point duties with 7 of 7 for the night.

The Bulldogs begin Area 2 play next Friday night in Brantley as the Pleasant Home Eagles travel to Bulldog Stadium for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
