May 10, 2008, Brantley: Ben Drake, the Providence Eagles outstanding power hitter, slammed a run scoring single in the bottom of the 7th inning to break a 9-9 tie and give his Eagles the win and a trip to the Class 1A state championship series next week in Montgomery. Drake was tremendous at the plate with 5 hits that included a three run home run.

Brantley had a 3-0 lead in the third inning but the Eagles answered with 4 runs to take a brief 4-3 lead. Then in the 5th inning, Chase Hall rammed a grand slam homerun over the left field fence to put Brantley back on top, 8-4. Drake and his teammates wasted little time in gaining a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the 5th with a breakout of 5 runs that came from a barrage of hits by the Eagles. Brantley, still fighting for the all important win, managed to tie the game 9-9 in the their half of the 6th. Then, in the bottom of the 7th, it was Drake once again when he came to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd. He confidently slapped a run scoring single to capture the win for his Eagle teammates and a trip to the championship series.

It was an exciting series with both teams demostrating run producing power as Providence claimed 2 wins agains 1 lost to move on to the championship next week.

The Bulldogs had an outstanding season making the semi-finals for the first time in school history. Congratulations Bulldogs!
