AlaWeb Internet Services - Year 2000 Statement
AlaWeb Internet Services is well aware of potential problems relating to the Year 2000 transition. We have an ongoing effort and implementation plan to assess the impact of and prepare for the arrival of Year 2000 (Y2K). Because this is a work in progress, AlaWeb like many other businesses, cannot provide specific "compliant" or "noncompliant"-related responses to Y2K questions. We can provide a summary of our ongoing efforts. AlaWeb has established an internal, multi-disciplinary Year 2000 Readiness project. Individuals working on the project have expertise in engineering and operations, accounting, and information technology. These individuals are assessing the Year 2000 efforts of each operating division and will play a significant role in helping AlaWeb achieve Y2K readiness. A tentative schedule of implementation steps is as follows:
Inventory & Assessment This step includes identification of all systems that use, or are suspected of using, microprocessor logic as well as all software that may potentially be affected by Y2K. Scope of this step includes an internal and external assessment and identification of systems that are ‘critical' to continued operations.
Testing internally and by appropriate vendors to determine extent of remediation required.
Testing of complete systems to insure integrated functionality under Y2K.
Implementation and completion of necessary actions as determined by previous processes to insure Y2K readiness.
Readiness Verification Test all systems to verify operational readiness. Correct any remaining problems.
Establish alternate action plans for all systems deemed critical to continued availability of online services. To ensure that mission-critical items identified as vulnerable are corrected first, remediation will proceed on a prioritized schedule. Priority will be given to AlaWeb's operations and financial management systems. AlaWeb is examining various other areas of its business, including personal computers and standard PC software used by employees. Recognizing that desktop software used throughout the corporation is extremely diverse, plans have been enacted under phase one of the schedule to determine compliance. Because this is an evolutionary project, AlaWeb does not have firm projections on the total costs associated with the Year 2000 preparation activities. Through August, all work toward compliance has been completed using both AlaWeb personnel and outside consultants. To ensure an effective communication process, periodic reports will be given to AlaWeb management and trustees.
